Open your eyes and look around kid. There are lots of places, even in the summer who need help with volunteers. Check in with your local food bank , just because it’s summer the people there still need food.

Look at volunteering at your local seniors home, you get to meet a lot of interesting people both old and the staff and who knows you might find a passion in caring about someone other than yourself or your friends or your family.

Look into organizations whose causes you’re interested in and volunteer with them. Are you interested in the environment, get involed with a local environmental organization. If you aspire to help internationally contact the Red Cross and ask about their youth programs.

Become a mentor to a kid , help out with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Help kids who need help with reading and math at the Boys and Girls Club near you.

Teach sunday school for a year, offer to volunteer in your church’s nursery or help with the toddlers.

It’s good to have good grades, don’t get me wrong but universities like Standford and others also like kids who are well rounded and actually take the time to participate in something other than just bury their faces in their books for that perfect gpa of 4.

You only got one shot at life kid, open up those peepers and look around and get involved.

You should have started ex. activities freshman year.

I’d say that you should aim for over 100 hours of

community service hours. Try the library or Habitat

for Humanity. Maybe a soup kitchen. Join lots of

clubs senior year so you’ll at least have something.

There’s a community service sheet that you can

print out somewhere. Have your volunteer supervisors

sign it and then you can send them along with your

transcript/application.

But remember.. Stanford is predominantly going to be

looking at your grades, SAT/ACT scores, teacher

recommendations, etc.

2. You can call the food banks, hospice centers, daycare centers, etc. in the phone book. Just simply ask them if they need any volunteers and set up a time.

3. I don’t know how your university works but I suggest getting a signed letter everytime you volunteer. It should state how much hours you were there, what you did, where you were, the date, and signatures of the managers.
