Why are some people caught in the headlights by HBCU’s? not knocking HBCU’s just make sure it’s worth the cash

Ok, A friend of mine recently started their freshmen year @ Spelman (A Historic Black College & University) and before they graduated high school last year I tried to explain to them that even the most prestigious, most difficult to get into and academically recognized HBCU’s aren’t even statistically ranked with the typical university. Many people also believe HBCU’s don’t prepare students for the real world (i.e. diversity)

But, let her tell it Spelman is so prestigious (humph by HBCU standards I guess) anyways, here are some entry level stats from Spelman The “Harvard” of HBCU’s vs University of Georgia

Spelman vs UGA

Difficulty level:

very difficult vs. moderately difficult

Acceptance rate: 39% vs.65%

Average SAT verbal score:550 vs. 615

Average SAT math score: 539 vs. 622

Average ACT score: 22 vs.25

Average GPA: 3.58 vs. 3.76

In-State tuition cost: $13,525.00 vs. $3,638.00

I believe it is more of a choice of honor for some. You know back in the day African Americans could not attend school at all, then they could not attend school with whites. To be able to attend college, a predominately black college, and be able to attend the same college as most strong black leader in history did, is an honor to most. When you are deciding on where you want to work and your social network, this can bond you with your closest network. Some attend because of other members in the family attended. I really think it is a matter of choice. But definitely check in to the curriculum regardless of where you go.

O and BTW I am white. ha.

Black schools r not as prestigious as the Ivy league schools, that is just how society is, the curriculum is the same at all schools. Spelman is considered a all womens college, I went to an all womens college and most women colleges r in the top 50 schools. I am not sure where u r I am in california, we have all kinds of schools from state, private and independent colleges. And if you look at the top black prominate individuals in society, the majority have gone to HBCU. I am a black female, I personally would not go to a HBCU because I love all races I like to be around different cultures it is a learning experience. If your friend is happy where she is then let her be. People need to learn how to mind their own business.

relies upon on what your motives are. once you’re worried approximately education, there are a number of HBCU’s that are valuable on your guy or woman progression. however, there are a number of faculties that are actually not HBCU that are great too. once you’re going strictly so which you will meet a black woman, keep time and bypass on various Fish. If a dating companion is greater significant than what form of education you will try from, it is not appropriate which college you bypass to, you will nonetheless be an fool.
