What are the best schools for online degrees, especially ones that have good tuition for military?

I’ve been trying to find brick-and-mortar schools that offer degree programs, but most of the ones I found only offered some classes, and not entire programs.

Have you considered the University of Maryland, University College? It is a brick and mortar school that really caters to people in the military. (The University of Maryland, University College is part of the University of Maryland system. In fact, its campus is right next to the University of Maryland, College Park – “Go Terps!”)

They have satellite campuses in different countries and on different military bases (I took a class at a military base in my area). But they also have lots of online classes – in fact 22 of their majors and 28 of their minors (undergrad) are offered entirely online and a lot of their certificates are too. I think they offer online graduate majors too and for some programs no GRE is required.

Here is the URL:

I’m not sure what you are looking to study – but you might also want to consider schools like like the University of Phoenix or Capella, which are primarily online schools. University of Phoenix also has satellite campuses in case you decide to do face-to-face lectures at some point.

I know someone who went to Capella – and it is really working out well for her – she is getting her PhD in Information Technology.

I would regard online universities as the absolute last resort for someone seeking higher education.

The quality of education these programs offer is minimal – there is simply no substitute for the kind of dynamic interactions and discussions that commonly occur in face-to-face college courses. Also, the quality of educator is significantly less at online universities – the best faculty choose to teach at real colleges and universities. Both the pay and work environments are far superior to online universities. So, for great classes from great instructors, go to a real college or university.

Also, because of the minimal training they offer, employers and graduate institutions place little value in degrees earned from online programs. Many of these programs lack even basic accreditation for the degree programs they offer.

Bottom line – you will receive little if any personal or professional benefit from online universities relative to what you could have received from a real college or university.

this will probably be your dilemma if you plan on getting degrees from schools that aren’t like ITT tech or steven’s henager college, or university of phoenix. What you CAN do is do as many online courses as the college or university of your choice offers in any given 2 or 4 year program then when you get out of the military you can transfer those credits or go to the school you already enrolled in.
