What are some good reasons to attend a Christian college?
Favorite Answer
– If you are devoted to your religion, and prefer to attend a university where that religion is a part of the lifestyle and culture
– If you would prefer a more conservative environment than is commonly available at many secular schools
– If you want to go into the ministry
– If you simply like the school
– If you want God and your religion to be discussed as part of class subject matter
– If you want to see course subjects via the lens of your religious beliefs
– If, perhaps until now, there are few people of your age that you know in your religion, and you want to make connections with others
But no matter the reason, make sure that the school is respected, academically. There are Christian colleges that are respected for their academics. Those are the ones you should focus on.
Also be careful that the school has appropriate accreditation. Some Christian “colleges” do not, and that can cause you problems when you try to get a job, or go to grad school.
Also know that, when it does come time to find a job, if your school is known as being highly conservative, or tied to a polarizing religious figure, some employers may be a bit squeemish about speaking with you, rightly or wrongly.
I can recommend some fine Christian colleges. You’ll need to investigate each one to see if it fits with what you’re looking for in terms of religious focus and culture. After all, Christianity is diverse, so logically, each will focus on Christianity in a different way.
– Baylor
– Calvin College
– Pepperdine
– Wheaton (IL)
– Biola
And also look at Grove City College. Although it’s not Christian, persay, it is very conservative, and many Christian students attend. It’s also quite well respected for its academics.
