Will playing football replace volunteer hours on University of California admission?

With football practice every day after school, i havent found any time to start volunteering. i know volunteer hours are important for a University of California application, but would an extracurricular sport that takes up almost all your spare time be a worthy trade off? (in the eyes of the admission people)

thanks in advance.

NO. Volunteer hours are about giving back to your community, helping those less fortunate, etc. UC admissions people will wonder what the heck you did all those months when there is no football. They want well rounded students, who do more than focus on one thing. Are there service clubs you can join at school to do during lunch? If you are a Junior, look for volunteer work as soon as the season is over. If you are senior, I suggest you find something to do on the one day you do not have football, like Sunday mornings in the soup kitchen, or evenings at a teen center, etc. Good luck!
