What are good universities for linguistic and modern language studies?

I am a freshman but want to get a head start for college, I want to have a career in the language feild (eg. interpreter). I know of Harvard and Columbia but want to know more options than those. By the time I get to college, I’m interested in taking German or Arabic. I also want to study abroad or possibley be an exchange student…

That’s awesome that you’re a freshman and you’re already thinking about college. I did too when I was a freshman. Well, Harvard and Columbia are both good schools, but Middlebury College is also a very good school that is known for offering many foreign languages and for its linguistics program. Georgetown University has the Walsh School of Foreign Service and GU also offers a degree in linguistics. They offer many, many languages at GU, which is one of the reasons why I will be applying there. They offer German, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and plenty more. Johns Hopkins (which is mostly known for medicine) has the #2 international relations school in the nation and it also offers linguistics as a minor and offers many languages including German, but I’m not sure about Arabic.

I can’t think of any schools that don’t offer study abroad opportunities. St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota has an extensive study abroad program and the highest percentage of students that study abroad of any college in the US (appr. 80%). It also offers German and Arabic.

I hope this helps!
