Transfering Into Tisch?

I was wondering what my chances were of being accepted to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. My GPA is around a 3.0 and i got a 29 on my ACT. I attended a arts based charter school were I took 3 years of theater. Upon graduation I have acted in 1 film and been in 1 theater production. I am also taking Contemp. Film and Acting at the school i go to.

Depending on how many credits you have at your current college, your high school record and ACT scores may no longer be relevant. Past a certain number of college credits, they rely on your college record, and ignore your high school record. That doesn’t mean that you can’t use your high school experiences in your essays and etc., but it’s your college transcripts that they’ll be looking at.

In addition to needing good grades in college, you’ll also need a very strong portfolio or audition in order to gain admissions to Tisch. It’s your grades, yes, but primarily that audition that’s going to get you in. Prepare extremely well.

The Tisch website has info for transfers on portfolios and auditions – and what they require varies depending on which major you are picking. I’m assuming you’re looking at acting, so you’ll need an audition and interview. I’ll link you to the page that talks about portfolio/audition requirements for Tisch.

Keep in mind that Tisch is one of the best acting and film schools in N. America. Therefore admissions are highly competitive. Make sure that you also pick some back-up schools, just in case Tisch doesn’t work out.
