A person’s study habits are ingrained behaviors by the time he/she reaches high school. Poor grades rarely reflect intellectual capacity, but rather poor self-discipline. Can a person modify these behaviors? Certainly. My experience has been that the best route to changing these behaviors is through a tutor. Your academic advisor probably has a list of them.
You didn’t mention which classes you took and did poorly in. But you should also ask your advisor about the school’s policy about retaking those courses. By your wording, I suspect that you are a freshman or potential freshman, so you have plenty of time to rectify things…if you apply yourself judiciously.
Admission committes at med schools love stories of people who trashed their academic careers and then became serious and excelled, so don’t lose hope.
I wish you well!
