How do you choose a major?

I am a 40 year old single mom of three and want to go to college. Who do you talk to for funding? How do you choose a degree? Are there tests that help determine your strengths? People to guide you? How did you make your choice?

there are always some kind of scholarship or loan or grant that you can get. research a couple that you can get and apply for a lot. schools should have some kind of career department that can give you career tests and help you make your decision. take lots of different classes. most of the time you need elective anyway so even if you take extra classes hopefully it will still apply to your degree in some way!

1) Look in your local library or bookstore for scholarship books–they have HUNDREDS of unclaimed scholarships each year. Especially as a nontrad, you’ll find loads of scholarships if you just look.

2) Don’t worry about a degree just yet–go to school and experiment a little bit of what different degrees. Find one that seems like fun for you. You don’t have to worry about one until you’re a junior though.

3) There are tons of people to guide you–talk to a career counselor. They’ll make sure that you’re taken care of.
