Should I major in accounting?

I am a social work major now and have been going to school for that for the past two years. But the more I get into it the more I realize it may notbe what i want to do. However I am not sure if going another year or two is really worth it. I am very good at math, but nervous about the classes. Any info would help… thanks!

YES!!! There are jobs in accounting and they pay well, especially if you go into the 5 year programs that a lot of universities have, you get your masters and take your CPA exams before looking for work.

If you work for one of the big four accounting firms you may be able to utilize some of you social work skills, they want their accountants to give back to the community and actually allot a few hours a month paid leave for you to make a difference.

haha. I am the exact opposite. I am majoring in acct. and now I think I want to get into nursing. ( to help people). I have a job helping the accounts payable dept. and it is so boring. I hate the classes too. It is not all math. You have to learn journal entries and all these categories and terms for things. I just am not interested anymore. There are some people that really catch on, though.

I agree with others….take a class. Also talk with your faculty in social work. As you enter your junior year you really start taking social work classes (in most schools your freshman and sophmore years don’t have many social work classes – so depending on what your doubts are about social work you may find it change now). Why don’t you take a class in accounting and also talk to an advisor so you can get a better idea of whether or not accounting is right for you. Good Luck 🙂

You should take a class in it first. You may not like it as much as you think you do.
