Should I drop this history class?

I am taking 17 credit hours this semester. I am a terrible procrastinator and won’t be able to finish both the 5-7 page paper and the take-home exam that are due in one of my 4000-level history classes this week. The professor is expecting VERY polished essays. I could finish the exam on time, but not the paper. If I don’t do the paper, I automatically get a C in the class (which I fully deserve) if I work hard on everything else. Or, I can drop the class, take something else in the spring, and still graduate in May. I really like this professor’s classes.

I am working 12 hrs/week because I am taking 17 hours. Money is very tight, which stresses my family and hurts my grades. If I drop the class, I can work another 4-8 hours a week, and we would be a little bit happier. I won’t have to work in the spring and will have more time to study.

Should I take the lower grade and work more now, or drop this class and try to do better in the spring? Thanks in advance.

That is a decision that should be made purely by you. But, it seems like you make the case for yourself…. you can’t handle the courseload, you need extra money, you can still graduate on time….etc.

think about your priorities and standards. Me personally….I’m not comfortable with a C…so I couldn’t do it. But you need to evaluate the pros and cons and really think it through.

Good luck.

You’re already this far along in the class, so stay in it and just take a lesser grade. Do the take home exam and score well on that, write the paper, and just take whatever grade you get on it. He has to give you more than a zero if you turn SOMETHING in, and even a 10 looks like you at least made an attempt. Who knows, he may look at the content and be so impressed with the content of the paper that he docks you very little for the lack of a well polished paper. I’ve been in your shoes and I just did the best I could and surprised myself with a B. If you’re on good terms with this professor and he knows your situation, he might have a bit of soft spot for your and grade your paper some leniency.

I think you may as well finish you class because although a C may look bad its no where near as bad as an WF and wasted money.

But on the other hand you could be able to relax more and pay for your education and ease some of the strain off your parents. You not only have been sleep deprived, but you also have been turning assignments in late.

If I where you I’d probably push a C and call it a day, because I tend to fight to the end. I use don’t get stressed easily, but you should probably drop the class to make yourself feel better and remove the burden off your parents.

If you don’t think there’s any way you’ll be able to give the class the attention it deserves, then I don’t see any harm in dropping, but I’d recommend talking to the professor first. S/he may be willing to grant you a small extension on one of the assignments, and if you can’t find a workable solution, at least s/he’ll understand why you feel you have to drop and won’t hold it against you if you end up taking another class with him/her next semester or need a reference for some reason.

I’m assuming your prof won’t give you an extension on the paper.

If you can at all pull it out this fall by keeping the class I would. You don’t know what’s going to happen in the spring and you might need those credits.

But, from the sound of your second paragraph, you’ve already made up your mind to drop the class to ease the financial burden on your family, and to get something better than a C.

If you desire to visit university, and also you consider like AP History might be too rough or or simply an excessive amount of paintings on the time, I’d surely say drop it. Getting an A in honors categories is far higher than simply passing AP. You have the AP for different categories, and for those who desire BRAGGING rights, then I’d say such a lot surely drop it, considering you can be getting a lot higher grades than the individuals taking all AP for bragging rights.
