Should I be taking Economics “101” and Accounting “101” at the same time?

A friend of mine who is studying Business Admin like myself advised me not to take Economics and Accounting classes at the same time, but didn’t know why, was told by someone that bit of advice.

Is there any reasons why I shouldn’t take these classes at once? Do you think I should take one before the other? Any help is welcome!

I don’t see a valid reason as to why you shouldn’t take these two courses together. If you care enough to post this issue as a question here, then I assume you’re a smart, capable and responsible individual. The only thing you should keep in mind is that accounting can be more difficult than expected. I took accounting after I had taken two years of Calculus and I thought my math skills were above and beyond what was needed. What I found out was that the concept of accounting was quite different than what I had ever been used to. I’m sure accounting comes easy to most people, but for me it was the hardest, most time consuming class I had ever taken. I did get an A+ (103%) just because I was so frustrated and I felt I had to get “it”. Actually, once your mind clicks with accounting concepts, the rest of the class will fall into a smooth flow.

So, going back to your question; the advice your friend gave you could be that maybe the original advice came from the fact that accounting can be a bit overwhelming at first. This information combined with your academic potential should enable you to make the correct decision. Best wishes and good luck 🙂

The two classes are mutually exclusive. I didn’t have any problem taking them together. IF you are concerned, check with your advisor and upper classmen who have had the two together at your university or college. You should check out the professor’s and thier syllibi for the courses. They should be able to give you an estimate of how much study time you will need outside of class.

I hope this helps.
