As a man I would say yes. While it is true that about 80-90% of all social work majors are women, the reality is that men are very much needed in the profession (and statistically they end up in more administrative positions – which could be sexism or interest). DA

Absolutely! Half of the recipients of social services are male, so why shouldn’t those who provide them also be of both genders? Frankly, it would probably help erase any stigmas that exist against female social workers if the field were more gender-neutral in people’s minds. If your intentions are true, and this really interests you, then go for it!

Of course. Most of the social workers I’ve seen are women. It would be refreshing for kids to have a male figure as well.

If he’s interested, compassionate and excited about helping people, of course!

Why even ask this question? It makes me angry when people imply that helping people is “women’s work.” Seriously, it’s the 21st century, people! Men CAN (and SHOULD BE) teachers, nurses, caregivers and social workers (if they want to) because men ARE compassionate, feeling, caring and intelligent individuals!

I’d look into job opportunities first. In at least two communities, it is difficult for a man to get a social work job.

Certainly. Why not? Be prepared for low pay all of your life.
