What careers are a possibility with just an associates degree in English?

I already have a strong background in journalism but no community colleges in my area offer this degree. I would ideally like to pursue a career in public relations.

“A.A.” Associate degrees do not typically have a focus like ‘English’, because they are mainly core requisite classes. Not until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned is their sufficient hours to have a declared major.

Almost anything. You have to realize that an undergrad degree isn’t a major determinant of your future career anymore. After a degree in English, you can do anything from working in publishing houses, acting, writing (for magazines, newspapers, or yourself as an author), teaching, and business (many go into marketing and PR, and you could always get an MBA afterwords). Actually, a lot of English majors do law afterwords. A good understanding of language is very helpful for law school (and life, of course), and a law degree in itself is a stepping stone to a huge variety of careers.

I think PR would be fine w/ an English degree. It’s more about social interaction and building up an impressive network. I mean, studying literature is studying human nature. Besides, there isn’t a PR major anyway.

Maybe a secretary… In general though, the only associates degree that will get you anywhere are in nursing, IT, or early childhood ed. Usually the jobs you can get are the same that you would get with a high school diploma. An associates will just give you a little bit more than someone with a high school diploma/GED.
