Questions about becoming a dermatologist when I grow up…?

I’m in 11th grade right now and I’m thinking of becoming a dermatologist when I grow up…what should I major in in college? How many years of college/schooling does it take to become one? And any other information would be helpful 🙂

Four years of college. Major isn’t important — but you have to take all the courses required for Pre-Med (just do a Google search on “Pre-med Requirements to see what they are). It is a good idea to do more — so many pre-med students major in biology or chemistry.

After college, you do four years of mdeical school to become an MD. After graduating you do an internship and residency in dermatology — which will take at least three years. When you are done with that, you take an exam to be board certified. Dermatologists make good money and have one of the easiest lifestyles of any doctors. There are very few emergency calls (like Surgeons) or procedures in the middle of the night (like ObGyns).

Do you somewhat have a Bachelor’s? by way of fact Dermatologists are docs. you like your undergrad achieved, plus prereqs for medical college. Get a ridiculously extreme GPA then prepare and get generic to medical college. 4 years of that then residency.

you need to look into pre-med schools & after about 4yrs in pre-med, apply to a medical school (2-4yrs?) & specialize in derm. Dermatology is interesting & they’re usually booked up months in advance so you should do it.
