CPA Exam Requirements???

I am interested in sitting for the CPA exam in DC. I reviewed the requirements but need some clarity. DC requires 150 semester hours of education. I will have 120 at graduation, can I take up 10 more 3 credit courses to fulfill this requirement or does this have to be grad level courses?

Second, there is a requirement for experience, without the experience you will get a CPN (certificate not to practice). Is this saying you will be licensed but can’t work as a CPA. Also what experience are they speaking of. I have worked in accounting since high school (about 6 years) can I use this experience are does it have to be more specialized?

Lastly, the application speak of endorsements, what are these for exactly?

rainlyn is right. 1) The 150 hour requirement has very few actual requirements other than a Bachelor’s Degree. Most jurisdictions also require specific classes (Business Law I and II, Upper Level Econ Class, and at least one Audit Class. Other than those, the other hours can be anything, but I would suggest any accounting class that you can take.

2) The experience requirement is to become a “licensed” CPA. You can still work in any public accounting firm, but you will not be licensed for a certain period of time. Passing the exam is the hard part, the experience is the easy part. My advice is to take/pass the exam as soon as possible after school.

3) I have also never heard the term “endorsements” relating to CPA.

1. You have to have a 150 college credits which includes your accounting classes and whatever b.s. classes you need to make up the 150

2. You have to work under a CPA for 2 years to get your CPA certification, you can take the test but it won’t count til you work with a CPA.

3. Endorsement? Never heard of that.
