Psychology Major…?

I really wanted to major in psychology but I recently heard that the field is not a good-paying feild unless I get a Ph.d or go on to medical school. So now I’m thinking about Pharmacy or Business in Marketing, Public relations or International Affiars.

Please give me your intake on all of these. Thanx =]

Psychology Majors wait tables,

Go with pharmacy, it takes awhile, but you can leave a big tip at the end of it.

Agreed with what everybody mentioned about a Psychology major. Unless you plan on teaching it as a professor, or unless you plan on getting a Ph.D. degree with your own private practice, you’re going to have a very tough time applying it in the real world and will more than likely fall in the 90% range of students who over the course of 10 years work in fields completely different than their majors. The best thing for you would be in the Pharmacy or the Marketing majors, and if you happen to have a passion for any of those then all the more better for you.

On a side note I personally think the Liberal Arts Department in universities have to be the biggest scam in the higher education system. How can a department offer majors like Anthropological studies, or Russian Literature, or Psychology and so forth when they have such little to no positive outcomes for the graduating student (outside of teaching as a career) and they simultaneously cost the student tens of thousands of dollars in tuition costs to achieve. If any major commercial business out there did doing anything remotely close to this to their customers, that business would be so hunted down by the government because of their “unfair practices”.

I have 12 friends that graduated with a psychology major and here are the stats of those i know about:

3 deliver pizzas

1 waits tables

1 works at a tanning salon

1 is a hostess at bennigins

2 work for a car dealership

a BA in Psychology is worth NOTHING!!!!!!!!!

if you dont go for your Phd you will never get anywhere.

It is true that if you are going to go into psychology, you basically have to get your pHD if you want to make a lot of money. Once you get your pHD though, you can easily make 80-90,000 dollars a year if you have your own private practice. If you know that you don’t want to get your pHD, don’t go into psychology. But, if you have the determination to get one, and psych is something that you love, go for it. In the end, you’ll be making a lot of money.

Pharmacy’s a great backup. You can make A LOT as a pharmacist. Just be prepared for a lot of tough science classes!
