Professor is 32, his former student is 28. They are currently dating. Is this ok?

He is still at the University and she is currently a grad student and not being taught by him.

She’s not being taught by him which helps. I wonder if he has tenure. Probably, I’d guess.

Yeah, I think it’s okay unless her grad adviser tells her to back off for scholastic reasons…like perhaps a teacher of her grad classes strongly disapproves or something.

Still, that shouldn’t happen, and I think it’s okay otherwise.

But who am I to say? Only a former student, not a prof.

The school should have a code of ethics for the faculty and I will guaranty that a part of this code deals with this question. The ethical dilemma here is the term “former student.” If questioned the instructor must be able to present evidence to support his/hers professional actions (grades and workload) with the student. Also he/she must be able to show non-interference with the student’s school career.

Yes. But, the chances of them starting AFTER she left his class may be questionable. The role of ethics seems to be a gray area these days (and in the past, too, actually- because it didn’t just start in 2007).

I think as long as she is not being taught by him, it would be okay. If she were still his student, it would NOT be good.

yes

As long as there is no student-teacher relationship, it is fine.

There isn’t really even much age difference. They are all grown up, so it isn’t anyone’s business, is it?
