It’s the difference between working for yourself and working for someone else, plain and simple! Nothing can take the place of being your own boss, but at the same time, all the risk of loss is yours as well.

There are also factors involved such as the increased cost of living and higher inflation/devalued dollar now as opposed to A few days ago.

By the way, for those who would wonder about the degree, let me say this: A degree is only to show that you have the intelligence to do the job and to give you the educational background to do the job. Whether they hire you at a decent enough salary for you to say it was worth it is a totally different story. And all the education in the world can’t take the place of experience, which is where the money begins to increase dramatically.

The degree is a necessary evil in today’s day in age to make sure you can show potential employers you have the ability to “jump through hoops”. I received a Communications Degree and now work in a hospital: infection control and HazMat.

My degree was not worth more than a burger flipper but I guess it did teach me to talk my way into another area…

I feel your frustration. When I started college they told me the average starting salary for my field was around $37,000. Well…..I’m making a measly $24,000. Seems to be more than a paperboy, but yet not what I expected. I have 2 children to provide for and that was one major reason I pursued a degree is to be able to provide a better life for them.

Keep looking, you’ll find something better.

Maybe you should look into another career field, or go back to school. I’ve found that you should try to get a job doing something you love. Everything these days is different, look at how many big dollar movie stars there are, over half of them never graduated high school must less college.

Most business students I knew told me that it doesn’t do you any good until you get an MBA.

Especially if you went to a college that didn’t provide you any hands-on experience.

That is really sad and disappointing. I have to ask…what is your degree in and are you working in your field?
