Please give me some help on my “About Me” essay, COLLEGE ESSAY?

I’m a senior in high school and our teacher gave us an assignment as the practice for college essays. I need to give a sense of WHO I AM AS AN INDIVIDUAL, and WHO I WILL BECOME. He said to make in interesting, to tell a story.

But I’m not interesting. Really I have never been anywhere, never done anything extraordinary. I have never had anything really bad happen to me, and never had anything really good happen to me. If I write about myself it will be the same boring essay colleges read all the time. My classmates have been to China, and done charity work in Mexico. I have nothing like that to write about. PLEASEEEE GIVE ME SOOME INTERSTING IDEAS…. not the typical “I got and F so I worked really hard and got a A”

The idea is for your essay not to be a chronological listing of “things that you have done” but more an assessment of the impact of lifes experiences on the person that you have become. Your teacher and the colleges want to get to know what’s inside your head and your heart.

Think about a great adventure or experience that you had. Talk about the impact of that experience and how it has altered your sense of being or your opinion or your ideas about certain things. That is what this assignment is about.

No problem. Relax. We’ll get the job done….

First of all hopping on a plane to China doesn’t define a person. Neither does showing up at a soup kitchen.

An “about me” essay is about what’s in your heart and mind. It’s not about trips that daddy paid for.

Here’s an experiment to find out “who you are”. Suppose find a suitcase filled with $1,000. A note inside says, “This magical money is yours to keep, but in one week, it will vanish. Use it or lose it.”

What will you do?

Everything is interesting! That definitely includes YOU! Don’t put yourself down!

If you can’t think of anything interesting to write, why don’t you brainstorm about it? Think of something that seems ordinary to you, but probably outlandish to others. Ask others for their opinion if you want.

I’m not in the position to give you specific ideas…but how about your personal thoughts on some things? Personal experiences that you feel have been very crucial in defining who you are?

It’s a hard thing to do. Trust me, I’ve done that just recently. But you’ll realize later on, that yeah, you are interesting! Hahaha πŸ˜€

Good luck πŸ˜€

Of course you’re interesting! Surely you have dreams, hobbies, and goals for the future. Talk about those. You can mention the things you like to do and how they influence who you are as a person. Talk about your personality, morals, beliefs. Write about something that means a lot to you, anything that you are dying to share with others. Good luck on your essay. You’ll do great!
