I go to school 15 minutes from my parents house (in Illinois) and live on campus. I have been living on campus for four years now. The past two summers I have stayed here year round. The crazy thing is that I don’t really go home. Every now and then on Sundays I will go home for dinner but I pretty much live here. Your decision will depend on how close you are to your family and how far away you can stand to be from them. Both flying and driving can be very expensive so you need to consider how often you need to be home (holidays, breaks), how often you want to go home (dinner, birthdays) and how much money you will have to spend on traveling. I have some friends who are from Hawaii and go to school in Illinois and have no problem being so far away because they enjoy the journey home twice a year and like the independence from their families. Maybe have a conversation with your family about it and then look at your options. Is financial aid important and what campus has your major. Once you can figure that out, do the math on the travel and emotional costs and will probably be able to make your decsion. But don’t worry, everyone grows up and leaves the nest sometime.

I’m going off to college about 60 miles away from my house (I live in Virginia, but I’m not stating my college or home location for security reason). I am just a freshman, but I do not intend to come home while at school, except during fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and summer vacation. Then, I’ll be coming back by car.

Dorms will be closed during the breaks (and you cannot live on campus during the summer or winter breaks; you could live there while you are taking summer courses, though). At the very least, during the breaks in your first semester, you won’t be able to get food from your university. So you will at least be coming home for winter break and summer break, unless you can find a solution about where to live during those months when you cannot be on campus.

It would be better to fly, however driving shouldn’t be too bad.

My parents live in Illinois, and I go to school in Nebraska. It’s about an 8 hour drive, or a 1.25 hour flight. I go home for Holidays and that’s about it. I do not go home for the summer, unless there is a wedding or a family party.

Lauren, go somewhere fun where you can enjoy your college experience. University of Miami in south florida is brewing with excitement and high class education . I personally used to visit every holidays and maybe 2 weeks over the summer or whenever there is a break, but nowadays , I just go whenever I can..

i attempt to pretend i’m no longer in because of the fact they continuously come and don’t take their footwear off. Then they attempt to communicate to me for hours and on no account rather communicate approximately something of interest. i’m no longer a humbug or something i in basic terms discover them stressful, i could plenty somewhat a set a date to pass out someplace with them.
