Once again, why isn’t college (1-2 yrs) a federal education requirement?
Favorite Answer
(1) Education policy is supposed to be left to the states, not the the national government
(2) Finishing high school isn’t even mandatory, so why should enrolling in college be?
(3) There are lots of good and necessary careers that don’t require a college education – for example the building trades.
Also, 1-2 years of college doesn’t do much for you career-wise. You actually need to get a degree to help your career. Associate’s degrees can be done in two years, but no degrees can be done in one.
College is great for a lot of people, but entirely unnecessary for some.
Frankly, my dear, a college education is not a necessity, even in these “modern” times.
What the gov’t OUGHT to be concentrating on is getting the VALUE for the educational BUCK they are spending ALREADY!!! Heck, the quality of kids graduating from our secondary schools is pretty poor, considering the amount of money the govt keeps throwing at it… and remember this little fact…
the govt’s money is OUR MONEY!!! It’s OUR TAX money!
Why should WE throw OUR money into a system that isn’t producing a “good” product? The US lags behind so many other countries in their education, why should we say, “Hey, we’re doing such a GREAT job with our secondary schools, why not throw money at the COLLEGES, TOO!”
HECK NO!!!!! Let’s get our act together with what we HAVE NOW instead of expanding an inept system even further!
Another “issue” to consider is that the secondary schools are primarily publically funded (Local, state, federal taxes), whereas colleges are “primarily” PRIVATELY funded (tuitions, grants, scholarships, etc). If the gov’t is unwilling to “invest” in PRIVATELY FUNDED SECONDARY schools, WHY should they get themselves involved in the privately funded COLLEGE/University system?
I hope this helps give you some ideas to answer your question.
