What to go to college for???

My bf has wants to go to college for something. All he wants is for us to have enough money for us to get by w/ out struggle. He is thinking about pharmacy school but that is very expensive. He only make like 17, 000 a year and Pharmacy school can cost up to 100,000 a year. He doesn’t want to be away all the time working and going to school. We also need to get our own place. Once we have settled into our own place things will go a lot smoother for us ( his parents are ready for us to leave too). I have rapped my brain around it and can’t think of anything. What is something good and kinda fun he could go to college for? Something that would be good for the both of us. ~Meanwhile I figure out what I am gonna go for, LOL~

First of all, if you are making that little, he will be eligible for grants, so don’t worry too much about what anything costs. You can make that happen, even if it initially sounds like a huge amount.

Secondly, I can’t guess what he would like, but if he were to start college, I’ll bet he would find something that would fit. I know I have a relative who went to college intending to do one thing, changed to something else which didn’t work out for him, but now he is really happily employed in a job he couldn’t have gotten if he didn’t have a college degree. Even if he doesn’t know exactly what he wants, the thing to do is to get started – otherwise it will take forever and he’ll give it up because he’ll have to support you and your six kids and being a student won’t seem like the right thing to do.

Studying pharmacy at a university doesn’t cost any more than studying any other subject. If he goes to a good public university it will not cost nearly that much. He should be able to get student aid to get through the program.

I don’t know where he got the $100,000 number, because Harvard only costs $38,000.

Getting a degree is a good idea. The average 25 year old with a college degree makes $20,000 per year more than the average 25 year old without a degree. The gap widens with time. Even if the cost were $100K, the payoff would be worth it.

He could become a nurse. It probably isn’t the most glamourous career, but they are hurting for nurses right now and the pay and benefits are EXCELLENT! Good Luck! 🙂
