On my college applications…?
it asks what my parent’s education is, like whether they went to high school or college. my father was a high school dropout and my mother never went to college, does this hurt my chances of getting into that university?

No, it shouldn’t hurt and in fact it might help you. As colleges try to diversify their student bodies, many of them are interested in having students who are the first in their families to go to college. Even if you have older siblings who went on to college, the fact that your parents didn’t but you are should catch their eye. It shows them that you are working hard to change your circumstances, etc.

No, it might help because it shows that you are dedicated to your education. Some colleges will take it mean that you have learned from your parents and you are trying a different approach in life. It also shows that you are a hard-worker and really want to go to college.
Good Luck, if you have good grades and transcripts, it shouldn’t matter one way or another. I am applying to colleges now too, where are you thinking of going?

No, it shouldn’t really hurt you… However, if you’re applying to a smaller, private university there is known to be some snobbery within their admission boards…so it just may hurt a little in that arena. Mostly they’re interested in seeing if your parents are alumni of their university (that definitely will help you get in most of the time).

Not necessarily. It may help your chances, if it shows they’re giving opportunities to “disadvantaged” students. You may help them fill a quota of some type!

It doesn’t matter because you can’t choose which one you want to better aid you. If you could, you’re probably lying.
