Name which courses every Undergraduate should take if they wish to become truely educated and enlightened?
I’m only asking about the kind of courses offered at a university in a class room setting. I know “experience” and the “courses” of hard knocks, etc. are all valuable, but I’m only asking about which college classes you think are invaluable and essential to a anyone seeking to become an educated, enlightened and a sophisticated citizen in today’s society.

if you mean general education, i think the indispensable areas would be arts and humanities, social sciences and philosophy, and math, science and technology domain. 🙂

Enlightenment and education rarely coincide. Education tends to get people more mind-dominated, whereas enlightenment has all to do with relinquishing the mind and its trappings.
I would suggest reading any book by Eckhart Tolle if it’s enlightenment you’re after.
There could be some enlightened teachers at universities, but that’s rarely the case.
You must have a different definition of “enlightenment” than I do.
Although I highly recommend anyone to go to university, I would never say that enlightenment is to be found there in particular. Enlightenment can only be found here and now, whether you’re at university or not.

I actually don’t think that university courses are essential to this goal. I would think that many would help, but essential? No, university is not essential to becoming an ‘enlightened’ or ‘sophisticated’ or even educated citizen.

good question – sociology – psychology – history – english – some philosophy
the courses are not what makes you that – it is you that will – many students take courses and just spit out the information to pass the tests and papers while others make it a part of them – I did the latter and am thus educated and enlightened

somebody says its math but if you want to be really sophisticated and have insight on everyday life, then you really need to know HISTORY – it combines every other social sciences like economics, politics etc
