Are you sure that it is Georgia State University (GSU, located in downtown Atlanta close to the state capitol) that your daughter wishes to attend? GSU does not offer an engineering program. Perhaps you are thinking about the Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech, also located in downtown Atlanta), which is a first tier school and widely known for its engineering programs.

Regardless, what precisely is your concern?

I don’t see a problem. Are you concerned because she is a female in a male-dominated career path? Are you worried that she needs a highr GPA? Are you concerned that she will be living in GA!?? That part was a joke!

Encourage her in whatever she wants to do- she seems to have some lofty goals and that’s wonderful! She sounds like a great kid… congratulations!

Encourage her in her chosen field. I have a female cousin who is an engineer and has worked for Delco-Moraine for the past several years. She is apparently very happy in her chosen profession! Many women have become engineers – it’s not like your daughter will be the first and it sounds like she’s smart enough to earn an engineering degree!

The demand for female engineers is insane. I know for a fact that one school in CA was offering a scholarship (free tuition) to any women who graduated from their eng prog. You should be proud of her that she is part of pvaing a new road. What are you concerned about?

encourage it if that is what she really wants but have her take at least one extra course in case engineering does not work out
