Masters in Accounting VS BBA Accounting & BA in History?

So I’m currently at UT, going into my 4th year of school. I originally was working towards an undergrad in Accounting and History, and then got accepted into the Professional Program in Accounting which combines your undergrad in accounting work and Grad work together so you can get your MPA in 5 years. If I continued the History degree, I’d be here 6 years.

Well, it turns out that I really am not enjoying the program…in fact accouting just leaves me confused and downright unhappy.

My question deals with how beneficial an MPA is compared to just having a BBA in Accounting.

I’m almost done with the BBA, but would it be foolish to not stay the extra couple years to finish the Masters?

Long-term, I actually see myself working towards a Masters in Public Policy or International Relations because that’s what really interests me.

I don’t plan on working for the Big 4 (After interviewing with them, I’m pretty sure they have no soul and the B-School MPA kids I know who end up working for them are majorly stuck up).

Anyway, yeah. Just wanted some info on the MPA (which really is a terrific education, too bad my GPA is suffering in it and I hate it)

VS a BBA in Accounting and BA in History (two more classes and I’ll be done with the BBA and I LOVE studying History).

Thanks!

I’m going to be brutally honest with you, Michael. Nobody gives a flying flip about a degree in history. It literally would not be worth the paper it is written on, especially considering the fact that you’ll have another bachelors in Accounting.

Learn from my mistakes. I have a BS in psychology and a MS in behavior analysis. No one gives a rip. My MBA, however, commands at least a little attention. I feel like I completely wasted all those years studying psych. Don’t do the same thing!

There are a LOT of jobs out there for someone with a strong business education. Do not let your distaste for Big 4 employees alter your decision. Just don’t apply at those particular companies!

The MPA program at UT is fantastic and you should absolutely do it if you have the chance!!! Get it out of the way now and you’ll be set for life. If you decide you really wanted that degree in history, you can get that later. Get what you actually NEED now!
