I can address the part about social skills and networking. People skills are more then about networking and peace at home so you can have peace of mind at work, which may be in your home, it’s also about creative ability and genius. Even to get a job people are being tested on emotional intelligence and getting training in it when they get the job. Besides it giving someone social skill, that are necessary in any job and at home, EI is so important in science. Physicists go so far as to identify themselves as Met-physicists, physics, math and science are being brought to ever higher levels. Einstein gave the credit to his intuition and said he was not a genius. Genius, it seems, is a mindset or state of mind and necessary, especially on the level of which your thinking. Things have always been this way, but now it’s imperative as we need to make a quantum leap in all fields to keep an edge and be doing the level of work of the future, no the present, with the average person being assessed as three years old emotionally.
