Law school Tier?

What give sa school a Tier rating? Whats the big deal with getting into a Tier 1, does it matter? I want to go to law school but not sure what these mean. I do not plan to get into a large firm and not looking to make oodles of money, so would a top Tier school still be good? I am limited to my options of law school, and 2 out of my 5 choices are Tier 4……

Regardless of the amount of money you desire to make out of law school, do keep in mind that tier does often affect your pay scale after school, and most law students graduate today with significant debt. Tier four schools are often categorized as law factories, with more lax admission standards, so individuals that otherwise would not be able to attend law school can get a law degree — AND THE SCHOOLS CAN GET THE LAW SCHOOL TUITION FROM THESE STUDENTS. Tier 4 schools don’t necessarily mean cheaper tuition, since some students are so desperate to go to law school that they will pay practically the same amount as a tier 1-3 school.

The problem arises when students that were not necessarily equipped to go to law school take the bar exam and cannot pass it. They still have the same debt load, but no law license, and therefore cannot practice as a lawyer, and have a hard time paying off the student debt. Of course, this is a worst-case scenario, but I can say that I would have been devastated if I had to pay my law school debt and was not able to practice as a lawyer.

Good luck!

If you aren’t interested in law as a money making profession then, no, Tier 1 law schools are not necessary. However, if you want to learn how to be the best lawyer you can be, and truly learn the LAW; it is important to go to a law schools that actually teaches youhow to be a lawyer and what the law is.

For instance diploma mills such as Liberty Law School do not teach and are not interested in teach the real LAW to their students, only in turning out right wing robots who will put the conservative spin on what they think the law should say or do.

If you can attend a law school such as UCLA or Loyola you will never regret it and who knows, you might actually find yourself wanting to practice REAL LAW.
