ivy league truth?

Question about schools?

my dream is to go to medical school and I want to go to Yale. I know. Must be crazy, but What school can i go for undergraduate to better prepare me for an ivy league medical school? Is Georgetown a good comparison? I have good grades, but unfortunately, that wasn’t always the case. I took some time off from HS before going to college. I went to a two year college because I couldn’t afford to go anywhere great and scholarships weren’t happening for me. Well, I got my act together and am wondering where to transfer to. I want to go somewhere that offers a lot of research opportunities, or things that would help me get into Yale. Any thoughts?

As stated by another response, any US medical school will give you a good education.

People outside of medicine think the reputation of a medical school is based on the education provided by that school. This isn’t true. The reputations are based on the residency programs, which have little to do with the med school.

People within medicine don’t care where you went to school. They will ask where you trained (meaning residency). For example, let’s say you wanted to go into Emergency Medicine. You could attend Yale-New Haven and receive an excellent education, but the renowned programs are U of MD and UCLA.

Your focus should be on your grades right now. Then you should apply to your own state’s university program. Once you complete medical school, then you can attempt to get into the top rated residencies–and like the example I just gave, don’t be surprised if it’s to a place you haven’t heard of yet. By then, you’ll know the difference.

The ivy league is extremly hard to get into. You pretty much have to have perfect scores in high school and then undergrad. As well as all the extra crics and such.

A cousin of mine went to a very good private school for high school, got amazing grades at the University Of Wisconsin and graduated at the top of the class with a masters, and almost perfect scores. He then got rejected from Harvard for grad school even though other schools where practically begging for him (literally).

I know thats not what you wanted to hear. But good luck.

I personally think the ivy league is a complete joke. There are thousands of amazing schools that will give you as much a great education as Harvard or Yale. Espically if you can not afford it. All that is going to be at any ivy league school is a bunch of stuck of spoiled rich kids, or the freakishly smart.

To the person ahead of me. No school can TURN YOU INTO a good doctor. Only you can do so. Yes they will give you the skills and knowladge you need. But only YOU can turn yourself into the doctor people trust.

There’s no magic solution to getting into medical school. Georgetown would certainly put you on the right path, but so would dozens of other schools, so don’t be too stressed about this. The same should be true for where you go to medical school. Any American medical school will turn you into a good doctor. It’s great to aim for the top, but if things turn out that you are admitted only to a low ranked medical school, you should still feel like a success.
