4 years of reqular college, 4 more years of specialized study, 4 years of internship.

You are biting off a big, expensive challenge.

Good luck.

You desire to become a pediatrician is great. Also the fact that you have finished your GED is wonderful. That shows determination and desire.

However before you become concerned with how much time it will take, you will need to get a few things out of the way. Now that you have your GED you will want to enroll in a local community college and get many of the required basic college courses out of the way. One thing you may consider is taking a Nurses Aid training course. This will give you a great beginning and a wider understanding of what the medical field will be like.

If after you finish this training you still want to become a pediatrician then talk to your counselor at the college about transfering to a University for pre-med. This will require out standing GPA and at least a 6 to 8 year commitment.

You have a long way to go. You first need to be accepted to a regionally accredited university in your area. You preferably want one with a premed program for your undergraduate or bachelors degree. This will take approximatley four years if you go full time (5-6 classes a semester). From there you will need to apply and get accepted into med-school. You will need a high GPA in undergrad to do this. Med school will be another 3-4 years. You are looking at about 8 years total. It is worth it if you can do it, but your first mistake was not finishing HS and just getting your GED. So you may have difficulty getting into a good university that offers the pre-med program you want. You will have to probably start out in Junio College and take all of your GEN ed requirements. Get above a 3.0 GPA and then transfer to finish out your bachelors in premed and a university. I hope this helps. You need to be dedicated. If you were not deciated enough to complete HS, then you may have difficulty in college unless you get the assistance you need now.

Give yourself 4 years of a nursing degree, and trust me, it may take more than 4 years. It took me 4 years to get a one-year certificate at a community college.

With a GED, don’t expect to get into most universities, start with a community college first. Good luck.

Figure about 12 years. First you go to college for four years and get high grades so that you can get into medical school. You go to medical school and get grades good enough to graduate. Then you become an intern for a year, then do several years as a resident then you can hang out your shingle and start paying back your student loans.

Maybe a better idea for you would be to become a pediatric nurse which could be done with four years of college.

In ten years you may be purely starting up med college. you’ve 4 years of highschool, then 4/5 years of faculty to earn your Bachelor degree, then you actually could take the MCAT and observe to medical colleges were you may be for yet another 8 years consisting of your residency
