funny you ask, i’m just about to leave my community college after finishing in a year and a half.

first off, it’s hard. most community colleges say you’ll finish in two years, yet most everyone i know takes about three.

how my CC worked was this: the maximum amount of units for spring/fall was 18, but you could petition to take more (which i always did). during summer the maximum is 12 (again, you can petition for more). the maximum you can take (with a petition) is about 21 units. anymore after that and you’re going to have to petition to the dean, which is a major pain in the butt.

my summer was split into two different semesters. for example, during the first semester i took humanities and zoology. the next semester i took three GE’s, and then ten days later i started fall semester.

you can cram in as many units as possible, but remember, no one cares that you finished CC in 1.5 years if you get C’s in all your classes. make sure that you are a good enough student to really challenge yourself.

it will be hard, you will get stressed and tired, and your friends will probably not understand. but if you’re happy, that’s all taht matters.

good luck.

Most colleges have summer sessions-sometime there are two (one month each, one in June, one in July) and sometimes there is just one. Check with your college to see how many summer sessions it has, but I guarantee you it will have at least one. These sessions move really fast, but it is a great way to get some credits out of the way in a short amount of time. You should be able to finish your 50 credits in no time if you take summer classes.

Good luck!!!

If they offer the classes you need. You could also see if you think you could pass CLEP or Dantes tests. That would give you credit without enrolling in course work.

you need to check with the college .. some have programs to achieve credit for life experiantal work after 12 hours so you might look into that with your counselor
