I want to transfer to a new University, but I wonder what would look best for my application.?

I’m enrolled in an class right now that is extremely difficult for me (out of my major, out of my interest) and I was contemplating withdrawing from it, so I can focus my energy and time in acing my other four classes. Would it look better on my academic application to the new school if I withdrew from that class, but got excellent scores in my other ones? Or would it be better to stick it through to the end, and get a slightly lower GPA overall (since the class is really difficult)? (I am past the drop deadline, it would have to be a withdrawal from course). Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my question. Thank you so much!

I can’t tell from what you’ve written if you are at risk of failing the difficult course, or if you are getting something like a B. I would drop it in the first case, but not in the second. Also, you say but the class is out of your major AND your interest, so I have to wonder why you are taking it. If you just took something to fill your schedule, then dropping it wouldn’t look too bad, but if it was a support class, like statistics, then you would probably do better to keep it.

Hey 🙂

That is a tough decision to make.

If I were in your shoes, I would stick with the difficult program until the end ONLY because it is past the withdrawal date & on your transcript, you will be penalized. By sticking with it, you’re showing the new school that you don’t give up if something is difficult.

Good luck!

A W on your transcript is less to worry about than a C. I say drop the class one dropped class is not a big deal at all, especially if you have really good other grades.

If you have a good transcript, I don’t think it would matter either way. If I was you, I would just withdrawal from the course instead of failing it..
