Is Speech/Debate considered a Fine Arts for the UC A-G Requirements?

I’m going to be a senior and I need a fine arts to qualify for universities. One counselor says that speech/debate does qualify and another counselor says it doesn’t. I don’t know who to believe. Does it qualify? Thanks.

To satisfy the visual and performing arts requirement, you must complete a year-long course in one of these four disciplines: dance, drama/theater, music and visual art.

Speech and debate was cited as an unacceptable course.

It depends. If you get at least a 3 on art history, then you fill the requirement by AP examination. But that’s risky because if you get below a 3, you don’t get credit. Also, AP History of Art does fill the fine arts a-g requirement. Note: At first I gave you a different answer. But as I was starting to fill the application, I started doing research and discovered that you can fulfill the requirement by passing this AP exam.

IGETC. Check that out. There are other forms, but that is a start for you. I can’t remember the one that specifically says the classes that transfer to UC. There is another one that just transfers to CSU. IGETC is for both.
