Is it really a big deal?

My parents have been on my *** for the past few months, since I’m starting college this year, about what I want to do.

I have no clue, I recently have become interested in film and photography, but because I don’t carry a camera in my hand at all time, people don’t think I’m competitive enough for it.

So I guess, my question is, how old were you when you found out what you wanted to be when you grew up,, did you always want to do it, and how many times did you change your mind?

I started college when I was 18 thinking I wanted to be a doctor, I was a Chemistry major. At 19 I became I bio major, at 20 I became a Criminal Justice major thinking I wanted to be a federal agent, at 21 I decided I wanted to be a Psychologist and picked up a double major. At 22 I changed my mind and decided I wanted to be a lawyer and graduated a triple major from college. At 23 I entered law school knowing I was going to be a prosecutor. Now at 24 I am thinking I want to be a civil / corporate litigator (still a lawyer), in my 2d. year of Law School. Right now this is the most comfortable I have ever felt in what I wanted to do, I know my passion is for law and it’s just time to figure out where in the law.

The point is you have time, don’t get tied down, stay in school and you can figure out what you want to do. make sure you get the degrees you need and a you can figure it out. Plenty of people switch careers numerous times, you’ll find out what makes you happy.

You are only in HS, so don’t place too much emphasis on knowing what you want to do yet. Don’t worry if other people think you are competitive enough. If you go for the photography route, that might not even matter. You are at the point in your life in which you are discovering your new interests. Why not give yourself a chance to develop that? Try carrying your camera around with you more often and see if you think this is something you can do all the time. You can at least take a few courses and see what you think. If your parents give you grief about not having a clear idea, tell them that you have some prospects, and you are going to college so you can get that clear idea. You will not know for sure until you try something.

There is still a possibility that you may change your mind. Many people do not know what they want to do even after college, because they continually change and learn more about themselves. If you’ve chosen a compatible major, however, your career interests will fall within that spectrum even if they change. For instance, you may switch from wanting to be a film director to deciding to become a photojournalist. This is completely normal. Don’t give up on yourself if you don’t have a specific idea. Just dive into college and take time to discover yourself. This is the only time in your life in which you’ll be given 4 years to do just that, without the pressure to work in the real world.

It’s not easy. If you are just starting college, you can expect not to know for a long time. I’m almost 24, and I still have no clue. I went to a community college for 3 years, and changed my major about 3 times. I never finished any of the programs I was enrolled in, and now I’m working at a background screening company, and I love my job. I would like to go back to school someday, but I don’t know what to do. It’s a very hard decision and as you get older, your interests will undoubtedly change. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself – you’re still young. You just have to dabble in things you think you might like, and eventually it will click.

if you dont know what your doing, i suggest going to a community college.

cuz if your an undecided student in a university, your gona end up paying for classes that may not go towards your desired major.

that means your gona end up taking classes that doesnt even matter towards your degree

the college usually helps your decide what you want to be tho
