Economics Question?

Hello… I’m looking to get into Economics at University…. And I was wondering… How much math is it and what kind of math is it??? I honestly don’t like math… but I like the idea behind Economics…I’m smart and probably could handle it…. So I was wondering what your thoughts were?? Thanks! 😀

there is a lot of math, and as to what kind of math, it is calculus.

if you dont like math dont go into economics

Specifically, the math necessary includes analytical geometry, matrix/linear algebra, and of course calculus. Also keep in mind the statistics necessary for Econometrics. Probability, formal logic, and game theory do benefit you. You are going to be confronted with optimization theory, regression analysis, stochastic processes , and elaborate theoretic mathematical modeling.

However, most of this is applied mathematics and not really economics (based on incentives – add reactions within institutions and you have what you may have heard called political economy and sociological economics). Remember that economics began and still does have its roots in philosophy (philosophy of science, etc.). Good economists have intuitive insights useful when confronted with new social phenomena. Math economists need data from the past based on economic activities rather than economics itself. If dissuaded, maybe look at a MBA of even just a MA in economics or political economy.

I don’t like math and I am in Graduate School (calculations are for computers, it is people who have to think and adapt).
