Is it harder to get in to a state school after going to a community college?

Will it be harder for me to get into a real state school after going to a community college? I’m worried that I might have more trouble getting accepted after community college than I would right out of high school. My grades are well enough to get into a good school but I don’t think I’m ready and I don’t want to screw up my future by going to a CC first. Thanks!!

It shouldn’t hurt your chances of getting into a state school if you go to a community college first. Actually, if you get outstanding grades in community college it will probably help you. If you’re not ready to go to a state school then you should wait. It would be worse to go to a school and get low grades, because you’re not ready. That will only screw up your college record and lower your GPA. Depending on where you live going to a community college may help you get into a state university. For example, in Virginia all students who go to a community college and meet certain grade and course requirements are then guaranteed a spot at one of the state’s top universities.

No, it’s not harder. There’s no shame in going to a CC first. They will still look at your high school transcripts. Also, while your are at the CC, study up a storm and get excellent grades. Then you will have no problem transferring to a different college.

Exactly the opposite. Most state funded colleges not acknowledge community colleges, but after you obtain the required credit course amount (30 to 40 hours) with at least a 2.0-2.5 (Passing your classes) acceptance is virtually a definite. They do not view SAT scores or other criteria that may cause a college to deny your application.

This may not be applicable to privately funded schools.

Actually it will be easy, some state schools have enrollment agreements with CC schools as well as private schools have enrollment agreements.. Just make sure you go to your transfer office. As long as you have a 2.5 for state and a 3.0 for private

They should be more lenient to accepting you since you’ve already had some college experience and gotten good grades. You’ll probably be smarter than the ‘fresh out of high-schoolers’ since you’ll have more years of education under your belt.
