Is it cliched to start a college essay with a quote?

I just don’t know how else to start it, to get the ball rolling. I’m an excellent writer, but beginning papers is usually my struggle.

No, one of the best grades I got on a Humanities paper about the Inquisition was a quote from Monty Python. The problem is finding a good and obscure quote. Stay away from the normal historical figures. Look for something humorous if appropriate or something that most people do not know. What’s your topic?

Instead of a quote, why don’t you use a metaphor or somehow compare your self to some other major change.
