Is a minor degree even worth the time and money?
Favorite Answer
As long as the major and the minor are compatible to one another and can be deemed an asset towards your final goal, I would go for it!
Let’s say you get a business major–great, right? Let’s say you get a Spanish minor–you can sell that like you wouldn’t believe.
I’m in business, so I can only talk about business majors. BUT having a minor in Spanish or accounting is REALLY going to be something you can sell as an asset.
The key is to put a major and minor together and compliment each other, not necessarily GO with each other. I’ve seen a lot of people go with an English Major and a Creative Writing Minor–congrats you know how to write? How will you use that your advantage?
The first two years of any degree consists of core classes. Those are the English, Math, Sciences, and History classes that are required before you specialize in what your Major will be.
So say I am interesting in education….I would take the first two years of core classes and receive an Associates in Arts or Science depending on what I wanted my Major to be.
I would then go to the next two years specializing in ….say….Math. I would then graduate with a Bachelor of Sciences in Math. Now I am ready to either teach, write, or go to work for a company who would employ me for my skill in math.
