Do I have a legitimate chance to get into an Ivy League school?

I’ve been especially thinking about Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth. 4.3 GPA through junior year, but screwed up grades freshmen year by not caring, (3.9 unweighted, 4.0 unweighted through sophomore and junior years); 6 AP classes total (Chem, US Gov, Bio, Spanish, Calc BC, Stats) and 3 more AP Tests (Physics B Mechanics, Macroeconomics, English Language) with probable 4s or 5s; 35 on ACT; 2100 on SAT (retaking); taking SAT II in Chem, Spanish, and Math II; Cross Country and Track all 4 years; total volunteer hours around 100; NHS, National Commended Student.

I know that I have a chance, but is it a legitimate one?

Going by what I know of their standards, you do meet most of the minimum requirements. I would suggest some other after school activity, such as debate, drama, band, etc. The thing is, when you apply to any other school, you aren’t applying against their standards, your applying against thousands of other students. There may be 10,000 students with your exact GPA and volunteer hours, but then it comes down to the essay, the interview and what else you did. Being smart is important, obviously, but so is be able to use your talents in many different ways. I might think about adding Brown and Yale to that list, due to the fact that they are also very good schools, but they tend to put more of an emphasis on grades and test scores than the “overall picture.” good luck, let me know how it goes!

You definetly have a legitimate chance. I’m a student at an ivy (Brown), and everyone here has a lot of those same kinds of statistics.

Really, it’s what you do outside of that that is the make or break for the decision… what will you offer as far as diversity is concerned?

When you write your essays, be original, don’t look up a format on the internet. Your essays are a heavy part of your application.

I think you have a great chance but is there one thing that really makes you stand out…I know you have the running but with your volunteering…is there one particular place you have been at a long time? I just know that colleges like something that makes you stand out and are different. Are you good in Cross Country and Track? Have you spoken to your guidance counselor?
