is a 450 class ranking out of 783 good or good enough to get into a high end college or university?

You are in the 50th percentile, which is fine, but a “high end” university does not usually think so. It all depends on your ACT score… if you have a 28 or higher, then your chances are pretty good, even with that class ranking.

BUT, what does high end university mean? Are you talking HARVARD/Yale or more like University of Iowa or Wisconsin, etc. State schools, you still have a chance with a good ACT. Schools like Harvard, no.

Do your research on specific schools and look at their calculations for admissions. Some schools have guarantees based on CR and ACT/SAT. Apply for the ones you love, and then also have backups. You are better off going to another state university or college for a year, building your college GPA and then transferring.

I don’t want to burst your bubble, but if you look at the % you are at 58%. You need to study for your SATs and do well in them. I would suggest, since the academic rating is not sufficiently high, start your basics at a junior college where you get more attention and boost your standings. They generally cost less, too. I did not come high in the standings out of high school, but I got a 97% on the SAT, enough for a scholastic scholarship if my parents weren’t making so much money. He wasn’t going to help me, but without him, they would have given me the scholarship. Look to yourself. Be the best you that you can.

It’s enough to get you into a college, but don’t expect to get into any of the top ranked schools with just your ranking.

Unless you have a great GPA and your high school is extremely competitive, or you have a perfect SAT/ACT score, or you have several other great qualities, you will realistically only be accepted to community colleges, smaller colleges, and some of the state schools.

You are not in the top part of your class and unless your class is particularly brilliant you will have trouble getting into a high end school.
