Sometimes. It really depends on the class. In some classes the professors give exams straight out of the lectures and/or labs. When it comes to prioritizing my time, I wouldn’t read the book unless I had free time. Even though I want to get all I can out of each class, I have other classes and if I have graded work I will do that before reading the book when I don’t have to. Some professors say they also write exams out of the book as well as the lectures. For the most part, about 1-3% of their questions will be from the text. The rest will be from the lecture. Partly because they go with the book while they lecture and partly because it’s more effort to write a questions strictly from the textbook. Just make sure you budget your time and figure out what you need for each class.

I do both of these options you mentioned. I think that during class, the teacher can expect for you to already have all of the information, so they cut it down by a greater percentage than imaginable. I take AP Euro History, and I am a sophomore in H.S. It’s a college course, but I already know that getting the information means listening in class, etc. hope this helps!

Yes. I’ll mark passages that are especially important. I especially do this with more challenging, theoretical texts. Helps me to understand the arguments better and actually gives me something to say when discussions arise during class time. I’ll also write my own questions in the margins or in my notes…. things I don’t understand in the reading. That way, I’ll remember to ask the prof in or after class.
I highly suggest you take notes (even just in the margins) while reading your texts.

Yep, I do sometimes.
For me, it really depends on the class, the teacher, the material, and other things. Sometimes I make flash cards, sometimes I make a list of key terms, and sometimes I take notes.
I also do a lot of highlighting!
