if you make straight a’s and b’s throughout your whole high school year, does that mean you will go to a unversity like yale or oxferd? or will it mean you’ll go to a low average college, like say i live in san diego. does that mean i will get into san diego state university??

Learn to spell Oxford first. Learn that you start a sentence with a capital letter, and Yale and Oxford are proper nouns.

If you want to get into a school like Yale or Oxford you will need a near perfect GPA. Straight As and Bs are not that great when you consider that those universities only accept the best of the best. Most students there were probably in the top 5% of their graduating classes.

Things other than grades are also very important. You’ll need some strong extracurricular activies, volunteer work, great SAT scores, strong essays, and good interview skills (if they request an interview).

Colleges don’t just look at grades. They look at extracurricular activities, how hard your classes were, sometimes how hard your school was, if you have any alumni relatives, etc. To get into extremely competitive schools like Yale or Oxford, you’ll need to be pretty top-notch. I’d suggest working to keep your 4.0 if you really want to go there.

However, don’t look down on “average” colleges. There are some state schools and private schools that are much easier to get in to that have nearly as good of an education. If you’re not planning on doing something that will require a degree from some place like Yale (like if you wanted to be a normal accountant), I’d definitely suggest keeping an open mind to other schools, as you’ll save yourself a good bit of cash. But if it’s your dream to go to one of those colleges, definitely push for it!

You need to get almost all A’s and in the toughest classes your school offers if you want to go to a school like Yale or Oxford. Even then, you’ll need additional points in your favor.

If you get A’s and B’s in honors classes, you will probably be able to go to a place like UCSD, to give an example close to home. A’s and B’s in regular classes will probably get you into a place like SDSU, but maybe not UCSD.

grades arent everything. the courses you take are looked at, and your extracurriculars. they also look at if you’ve kept with stuff, like, colleges rather see that you’ve taken three years of spanish, then one year each of spanish, french, and latin. also, if you’ve kept a steady afterschool job, they like that too. it shows responsibility.
