If you want to go to Medical school, what should you do while in High school?
I know you need to get top grades and whatnot, and then major in pre-med in college, but right now im in 10th grade, I have about a 95 average(maybe a 93) in all the highest level courses possible for my age, and I want to know am I doing what I need to do? Im in cross country and both track seasons at my school. Im wondering though, is there any out of school service i should look into? someone had told me go to the firehouse and become an EMT. is that a good idea? any help someone can give me on this is appreciated.

Volunteer at a hospital. Take science courses. If it is possible, take summer courses at your local community college. Take a language, it looks really good on your application if you can say that you are bi- or tri- lingual. If your school or a community college offers EMT courses, you could do that, but I think there are age requirements for that.

In high school you can do plenty of things… stay in your high level classes especially math and science (you should probably take even more that is required but AP biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, trig etc. will be extremely helpful) you can volunteer at hospitals, get CPR certified (so you can have a heads up on the basics) maybe take a fitness and nutrition class, the EMT idea was a good one as well if you are old enough, you can work in a retirement or nursing home, you can even volunteer at vets office with sick animals, volunteer with the school nurse even! then take pre-med program in college (research the best ones like John Hopkins Univ.)! GOODLUCK!

You are to young to become an EMT..volunteer @ your local hospital..take all college prep with strong science, chem, biology, etc. You might get a part time job @ a local nursing home..Your grades are good, keep them up, becoming a Dr. is a long hard struggle, but you sound like you are willing to work hard..Good luck, you can do it..

A firm background in science will serve you well. Take as many courses in chemistry, biology, and physics as you can. If your school offers anatomy and physiology, sign up for those. Advanced math is usually a part of the Pre-Medical curriculum as well, so courses in calculus and trigonometry are also useful.

You have a lot of great things going for you. Just continue that and do well in your classes.
