Doctors are not always sick. Why?

1) Not all patients have diseases that are not contagious. (Cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke, (to name a few) are not contagious and there are many patients with these problems.)

2)Doctors take precautions- handwashing prevents a lot of disease transmission, there are masks, gloves, and gowns doctors can wear. Also, some diseases have vaccines to prevent them.

3)Some doctors don’t deal with contagious diseases at all. (For example, obstetrician/gynecologist, oncologist, orthopedic surgeons, etc.)

I believe that doctors do get sick more than the general population and , in fact, have shorter lives statistically. You should do more research on this subject and not just go by my opinion, however. Good luck and hope you do decide to become a doctor. We need more good doctors in this world.

They do get sick often in the beginning, but eventually, the immune becomes stronger because they are used to it and then become sick less often. Same scenario with nurses too.

Don’t worry, you will be fine! There are so many guidelines to help you as a doctor to be safe. Do what your passion is!
