I want to transfer to either UC Irvine, UC Sand Diego or UC Santa Barbara. I am currently attending UCR.?

Right now my Gpa is a 3.2 and I was wondering if I have any chance of getting into one of these schools as a mechanical engineering major. If not what major should i apply for in order for me to get in so i can change my major later on. I took a lot of math and science classes already. Please help!! thank you

It sounds like you want to be near the beach.

First, if you become an engineer in real life you will make enough money to be able to live where you want to live. So, just get the degree in engineering from any school and you will be set.

Second, call the schools and speak with the engineering department, better yet set up an appointment to meet with them in person. Tell them what you are trying to do. One school might say, “We’d love to help. Just do this.”.

Lastly, although it is not as warm, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is very close to the ocean and the beaches are not all zoo-ed. There are great surf breaks and not a lot of gnarly locals getting all upset that you’re there. Also, it is less expensive and has an awesome engineering department. And with all the money you save you could but a dry suit!!

Best wishes,

Mike

PS: One last thought…if you try to transfer at the semester, you have a better chance of getting in. That’s a really excellent thing to remember.
