I am not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha but I do know that there is much to learn when pursuing membership in this sorority. My advice to you would be to maintain a high grade point average, become involved in your community and at your school and maintain a highly respectable reputation. In addition get to know the members in the chapter at your school. Good luck with your pursuits.

To the person(s) who continues to give my answers a negatie rating: By doing this will not prevent me from posting in this community and will not subtract from the number of points I have accumulated. My answers speak for themselves not your insignificant rating. Thank you.

Hi, I am a Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, first you need to check to see if the school you are attending has a chapter there that is ACTIVE. A few suggestions I have are: attend AKA sponsored events on campus, involve yourself in local community activities and school wide activities, maintain the highest GPA you can possibly get at all times, conduct yourself in a lady-like manner and be focused on your education. This will help you get to know AKA’s on the campus, they will become familiar with you,and by doing these things you will be modeling what our sorority is all about. Like I stated earlier, know if the chapter there is active, because if it isn’t you do not need to participate in activities ”supposedly” sanctioned by our sorority, that would be a good indication of something going wrong. Also, do not use the word ”pledging” that is something our sorority is trying to do away with. Save your money as well, its’ not cheap and there are no discounts. If you are completely unsure, research all the black sororities first to make sure Alpha Kappa Alpha fits you. We are into “supreme” service. So if you do not want to work hard and SERVE others, not have them serve you, this isn’t the one for you. Check out aka1908.com to see general information about our sorority. Hope this helps/

I would suggest you do a few things. One, expand your network with the members of the chapter, not just because you want to pledge but because you want to show them that you’re interested in what Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc stands for , ie service to community, high ethical standards, sisterhood, scholarship, etc. It also might be good to participate in their campus programs, reach out to members who you might have class with (without sucking up- we hate that), and discreetly express your interest to one member that you feel closest to. Trust me it will get around to the rest of the chapter that you’re interested. But be prepared to have sufficient answers for the following questions 1) Why do you want to be an AKA? 2) What do you think you can bring to AKA? Also, please make sure that you do some research on the sorority in general, know when it was founded, how many founders, where it was founded, why it was founded, etc. There is nothing more annoying than someone who wants to join who doesn’t know anything about the organization. And last but not least, before you express your interest, please make sure that you research the other organizations as well, make sure that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc is the organization that you want to join. If selected, this will be a life committment and we do not need any people who just want to wear letters and party-hop. We are about taking care of business. Good Luck.
