double major in architecture and sociology?

i am a junior in high school, and i’m positive these are the two majors that interest me more than anything. also, i couldnt imagine deciding to just get a minor in one… basically i cant put one above the other. i know im only a highschooljunior, and have plenty of time, but im sure that this is what i want to do. so is there anything i could do now to lighten my workload in college, other than advanced high school courses? also, what are some of your perspectives on getting double major?… especially in two completely unrelated fields.

i am considering getting a double major and i think it is a fantastic idea to have two completely unrelated ones. it might be tough but then balance by not taking as many art courses or stuff like that.

good luck!

yes, take ALL honor and AP courses if you can.

when I was in high school, I wanted all the hard course out of the way so that I can head straight into my major (political science and minor in Women Studies)

I took honors english, chemistry, A&P, and Calculus honors

by the time I was a freshman in college, I was exempt from most of the courses required of fresman(and exams). (also helps to have a good SAT score)

Hi there,

You are still in JHigh so you have plenty of time to change your mind again and again and I advise you to do just that.

Some people double major because they like taking alot of classes in a variety of fields, but in your case of potential future interest, sociology and architecture are drastically different majors, ***and, if you are interested in a career track in either field, you have to pick one.

Architecture is a technical job (similar to engineering)…you are looking at long hours in an office, possibly site visits, working with clients and construction crews…you see where i’m going

Sociology is a totally different skill set. If you advance in that career, you’re looking at being a professor, working with students, studying cultures and different ethnic groups, travel, writing books, papers, possibly being in college administration…very very different.

Double majoring in fine, but trust me, from my experience, to get the most out of any situation in life***you need to FOCUS.

Try majoring in neuroscience. A relatively new field of study, Neuroscience combines the fields of biology, psychology, chemistry, engineering, and others to come to a more specific understanding of how brain structures influence behavior. As a Neuroscience major, you’ll learn about the evolution of the brain, cellular neuroscience, and genetics. You’ll learn about consciousness and what affects it. You’ll learn about the nervous system, and what factors might enhance or destroy it. You’ll study various types of both normal and abnormal behavior. And then you’ll put them together and see how the brain and nervous system are themselves factors in why we act the way we do. Much of your Neuroscience coursework will require research and laboratory work. You might study the electrical activity of nerve cells, or evaluate the effects of drugs on behavior; there are any number of directions your research may lead you. or try majoring in a language such as spanish. Learning another language expands your communication skills and allows for you to explore new options in whatever field you may choose. If you chose psychiatry, you would be able to expand the types of patients you could treat. For example if spanish was your major, you could cater to the latin community as well as the english-speaking community.
