I want to go back to college but……?

I want to go back to college and finish my bachelors(need two more years). I’m 37 and the last time I was in school was 4 yrs. ago. That has been my goal and desire to finish school, but just to think that a teacher asks me a question and I don’t know the answer, I panic and I think of not going after all and also the fact that I may not have a good memory like I used to have. Have any of you had the same feeling? Thanks.

Stop! Don’t second guess yourself! Four years is not a long time! All you need is 2 years left to finish what you started! You just need to have more faith and believe in yourself. You say you desire to go back to school, but your actions speak louder than your words. That doesn’t make sense. Who puts those kind of negative thoughts in your head that you don’t have a good memory? Ask yourself this question, will you be able to live the rest of your life knowing what would have, could have, should have? Will you be content knowing that you were half way done with completing your goal of getting your bachelors degree but you stoped? You can’t race around and wait for the opportunity to come up behind you again! You have to make the opportunity happen for yourself because no one is going to do it for you! Just think about how much more money you could be making with your degree?

You should go back to school and stop second guessing yourself. Here is my tip to you: Always read the chapter a day before the class starts on that chapter, that way you’ll be ahead of the whole class and if the teacher asks a question you will be able to know what it is.

You’re 37 years old, you’re still young, but you’re not getting any younger! Be an example for your children, family, and people who are the the same situation like yourself.

I can say that I have felt this way before! I’m only 22 years old and I have the constant thought running through my head about how I could have graduated from college this year had I kept going. I see so many of my old High School friends graduating already and that only encourages me to continue. You need to find your encouragement and inspiration! I read a story on the news the other day of this old lady who got her degree…and she was older than my grandmother! That says a lot about desire! That is the true meaning of desire!

Live life to the fullest! I hope that you go back to school soon! I know you can do it!

I think you have too much pride. You feel that you don’t belong there and that you are better than your classmates. You feel embarassed in front of a class because the teacher, probably the same age as you, ask you a simple question that you can find the answer to.

You need to understand that you are no smarter than anyone else, just a ‘little more experience’ in life. It’s not the age that matter, it’s the knowlage that you gain from age.

Just go back to school and present yourself as a slow but willing person. People will help you and will share insight rather then keep it hidden as they assume you already know such info.

There are people who complete their bachelors while they are 50+ in age. You shouldn’t worry so much.Although your cognition skills at age 37 are inferior than at age 22 , you still can achieve a lot. YOu still have a pretty good memory. YOu should take notes, discuss it with classmates and try to remember it. That way you can proceed. Also you can take part-time classes and part-time work. I also have missed college for 4 years because of health reasons. But I dont’t feel tensed that I will not be able to complete my bachelors. I have a year left and I am confident of completing it.

Even though this is the first time I am going to college I am so nervous of failing and not knowing the answer, but a good friend of told me that you are there to learn the things that you don’t know and that if you knew it all what is the point of going to college. Plus if you can’t remember some things, just write it down and study it more. Or just go ask for individual help from the professor. GOOD LUCK!!

You’re never too old to go back. Most of your teachers will really respect that. I’ve always had classes with professional and older people. It’s scary to go back after such a long break, but I assure you that once you get in class you’ll feel a lot better and it won’t even be an issue.

You are a grown and mature adult. Your experience could be a valuabe resource to the instructor and to your classmates. Most instructors lecture and do not call students out to answer questions. Being a student is not about memorization. Instead, it is about taking what you learned and analyzing it, synthesizing, cause and effect, describing, and applying. Do not be afraid to go to school. I plan on going back myself because I loved it. GO TO SCHOOL AND GET IT DONE!!

yes. that’s one of the risks you take. but you wouldn’t need the class if you already knew the answers. It’s worth doing. Good luck with it.

just do it!

Who cares if they ask you and you don’t know. You are there to learn, not to show how smart you already are.
