What can I do with a minor in French?

I am an English major, double minor in French and Political Science. What are my career options, or am I just screwed?

With an English major your only secure option is to pretty much teach the subject as a professor. (For that matter all three of your subjects have fields that are only secure in teaching them, with Political Science further branching out into law or politics). There are none too many real-world applications for an English major outside of the educational field, so hopefully you will like the idea of becoming a professor and teaching other college students about it one day.

I’ve known several friends that had English majors when they graduated, and all have gone on to pursue their Master’s since they know they’re going to become professors.

A minor by itself will not open doors for you since some people major in it or study at a French-language university; however, if your French skills are very good (and with this language they had better be) you may get a job or internship where knowledge of the language is a requirement, or simply useful, that you would not otherwise have gotten.

Bottom line, with languages it is what you know, not what your resume or diploma say.
